How to Make UPI Payments Without an Internet Connection: A Step-by-Step Guide

Have you ever had an Internet connection go down while trying to send money online via Google Pay, Paytm, or PhonePe? If so, then *99# is a USSD (Unstructured Subscription Service Data) mobile banking service that can help. You can request money and change your UPI PIN without connecting to the internet.

*99# provides banking services for all citizens of the country. It is available in 13 languages, including English and Hindi, and is offered by 83 banks and four telecom service providers. This is how to set it up and make offline UPI payments.

Install UPI payments offline

1.    Use your feature phone or smartphone to dial *99#. This service will not work if you use the same phone number linked to your bank account.

2.    Next, select your preferred language and enter your bank account.

3.    A list of linked bank accounts will appear to you. Click the appropriate option to choose the account that interests you.

4.    Enter the 6th digit and the expiry dates.

5.    After setting it up successfully, you can use UPI to make payments, even without an Internet connection.

Pay offline with UPI.

1.    To send money, dial *99#from your phone and type 1

2.    Select the option you prefer and enter the UPI ID/phone number/bank account number of the person you wish to send money to.

3.    Next, enter your UPI PIN and the amount.

4.    Once your payment is successful, you will be charged Rs. Use the *99# service to get 0.50 per transaction.
